DOS Operating System
The DOS operating system, or Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS), with its full name, is a command-based operating system devoid of a graphical interface used in newly developed personal computers by Microsoft.
The DOS operating system was designed for the first time with IBM's computers in mind. This operating system, the first official product sold by Microsoft, was purchased from Tim Paterson and sold to IBM under the Microsoft brand. The MS-DOS operating system, which started to appear in personal computers for the first time in 1981, continued to exist until 1994, and MS-DOS 6.22 version was published and shelved in the same year.
The DOS operating system was an operating system that worked with commands, so unlike the operating systems we use today, you had to master DOS commands and know all these commands by heart to work with this computer.
If we think in terms of the user, the DOS operating system was an operating system that was not very suitable for end users, and it took time to learn to use this operating system. This was one of the most important obstacles to MS-DOS being an operating system that appeals to users of all ages.
After the development and strengthening of personal computers, Microsoft realized this fine detail and created a new generation Windows operating system that uses DOS only as a base, but allows the user to perform operations with a graphical interface. Since the support for the DOS operating system has been discontinued and it is one of the operating systems considered primitive as of today, it is not possible to see anyone using the DOS operating system anymore. However, many commands that are the same as DOS run in the command prompt of Windows operating systems, and some superuser users use these commands to create the advanced operations they want.
DOS Commands
Although the DOS operating system is no longer a usable operating system, most of the DOS commands can be used in new generation Windows operating systems. In addition, Windows commands are among the commands that many computer users want to learn because of their Unix base.
