In the last two decades, developments in the technology has made the internet most important thing in the world with these developments goes on in the area internet and cyber security became crucial. Internet has many good ways to use such as sharing, connecting, etc… but also there are a few threats. Some of them are actually threats for states but the exact copies may not affect the citizens in the same way. This is a rare sample of security studies. However, what about secret documents of the government. Maybe we could say our private life is not more important than the states’ secret documents. Although, there are some people who seems to oppose and try to change the system and people accept them as heroes but states call them traitors and want to arrest and punish.
Julian Assange and Edward Snowden has released many secret documents of the states and their goal was to change what is simply going on in people’s mind. They saw everybody obeys and accepts what leaders say or what media says and they wanted to show the real life to people by releasing the documents. Nevertheless, is it worth to take that risk for people? Mostly they are blind and deaf.
Firstly, Julian Assange was born in the Queensland city of Townsville. He has hacking background and hacked many important, key websites of the states such as Pentagon, Nasa, U.S Navy, etc…, Also he has a lot experience about programming but he loves to integrate with cryptography and it was his playground he knew it very well and loves to work on it. In 2006 WikiLeaks came up and world accepted Assange as a founder of the WikiLeaks but he does not accept it and he says “I am just a co-editor of the WikiLeaks” WikiLeaks is a website where you can find many secret documents, meetings, conversations, torture documents or human rights violations without any change by the media. It is been said without change because current time media has too much power to effect people. Many important thing happening but by media or press changing the rotation of the attention that is why people does not know what is really going on in the world. However, Assange wants when people search they should find the real sources of any documents or news. By this system, Assange gave new directions to media and created a new fashion to people who has documents but afraid to publish it because of the blackmailing, be killed or going to prison such as Bradley Manning who was in prison because he was a leaker of Assange. Although, Assange published one big encrypted file via Torrent and too many people downloaded the file in their computer. The file had many top-secret documents of the states. Assange announced the world, if he will die, the password of the file will be publish and citizens will have chance to open the file and see the top-secret documents. He is the outcrop of the WikiLeaks system because of his guarantee and many of people releasing many information, documents, etc… by using the WikiLeaks’ power and people will see it. On the other hand, they would never have power to reach many people.
Secondly, Edward Snowden was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He is computer specialist and he had worked in CIA then he worked as a computer contractor for NSA also before NSA; he worked in Dell and Booz Allen. While at Booz Allen, he was working for NSA subcontractor and he started to copy top-secret documents from that time. Hereupon, he disclosed thousands of top-secret documents to “The Guardian and The Washington Post “ in June 2013. However, before he gave to this secret information to journalist, he had checked all data because some of them could be too much important for the state and can put the state in bad situations. After he gave them to journalists, he did not take any copies of the documents. The main reason why he did not do it is because of torture of the other enemies of the states could try to gain all the secret information if he does not have any he would not be in trouble and would not put his country in such kind of trouble. You can ask if he thinks in that way why he released the secret document we can explain that by his speeches he says he wants people to know the truth. Government has been spying on people’s personal communications, including emails, phone calls, locations, web histories, etc… He wanted people to take an act or a responsibility to stop the pressure on citizens caused by state and government. Many people accept the way of his thinking and his act to chance laws and helping to protect our privacy. In addition, they say if Snowden did not disclosed this documents they would not have the chance to change by themselves.
Snowden has seen as a hero for USA and many other countries’ citizens because he defend the citizens’ privacy. However, USA sees Snowden as a traitor after the releasing however many other country doesn’t agree with that they even offered free pass to him in case of personal threats. Julian Assange advised him to fly to Russia and for his first time there he had a year long permission then they rearranged it into three years. At the same time, many other countries gave him the same opportunity such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua. In the end, USA had faced many difficulties because of these documents with other states.
I think he is not a hero neither a traitor; he could be a twisted person. I have a conspiracy theory about the situation. USA could make a sham fight with Snowden. In American’s movies and series they penetrate the people. We all know they impose in these movies and series “USA always know everything around the world by spying, watching, listening via technology or internet also, they impose they can have an operations where they want and kill who they want to kill” It is stuck in peoples’ mind USA has power to control everything. However, we were saying it is a film or series it cannot be real. After Snowden released these documents, it came true, people started to be afraid. USA gained more power or effect on people.
In every period of the history there is a wo/man standing up and raising their voices to make a difference. These people are the ones who make the same move for a greater good. Heroes does not have the cap in real life and just a few of them are recognised in the way they should be in their times .Despite everything finding out the truth and let people know about is a heroic act. Years later we will remember them by their names and judge them with what they have done, while many of us cannot even think about it, they put themselves in danger to change the world and the lies once we knew as the truth.
